Bit of Background

The Incredible Edible movement first started in Todmorden.

Their Project outline inspired me and is very much at the heart of our own project:

We are passionate people working together for a world where all share responsibility for the future wellbeing of our planet and ourselves.
We aim to provide access to good local food for all, through
• working together
• learning – from field to classroom to kitchen
• supporting local business
All with no paid staff, no buildings, no public funding: radical community building in action.
Membership: If you eat you’re in. We are all unpaid volunteers doing our best for our town. We rely on donations

Todmorden is a town that very much reminded me of Mossley and after discovering their movement last year, I tentatively launched Incredible Edible Mossley. First by asking opinions in local groups. After it seemed to get a good reaction I set up our Facebook Page and arranging a meeting at a local cafe Sweet Vintage.

To be honest I am not really one for doing something like this.  Never like to stick my head above the crowd for fear of failure, but if you don’t try it doesn’t happen.  I would have been thrilled if just one person turned up, but we had seven enthusiastic individuals. After a bit of a chat and some cakes (yumtastic is all I can say) we went out to see where there might be good spots to start. It was decided to start gently with areas that were ripe for planting.  I arranged to clear a stone walled area to act as our first herb garden area.  Myself and Mary dug it over and both tried to grow some herbs.  (mine failed somewhat).

To be honest last year was a slow start, but it was a start and a learning lesson.  We also visited Todmorden to see what they had achieved.

Please pop over to our Facebook page to see all our projects and events from last year.  Also to keep up to date with new events.
